Tess Heinonen

Resume

Tess has been working as a mental health dietitian across the lifespan, and has specialist knowledge and skills in assessment, management and treatment of eating disorders in both community and inpatient settings. Currently she is working within Infant, Child, Youth and Family (ICYF) mental health, servicing community and inpatient settings.

Tess has experience providing nutritional management and treatment for children, young people and their families and adults with conditions such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, other non-specified eating disorders, co-morbid personality disorders and other psychiatric co-morbidities.

Tess has completed extra training in therapeutic mental health treatment for eating disorders including Family Based Therapy (FBT), Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-e), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (DBT-e). She can assist in helping you understand the clinician roles and responsibilities within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and how the Dietitian can work best to compliment the therapy being provided by the adult or ICYF mental health clinician or therapist. Additionally, Tess has completed extra study in mental health for ICYF, being the Applied Mental Health Studies Diploma in ICYF through Higher Education Training Institute, and will have completed the Masters by the end of this year.

Supervisees who work within a community or inpatient setting with either children, young people, families or adults, who would like to better understand their role within the MDT, how to create professional boundaries with clinicians and clients/families, develop further understanding of mental health interventions and how the Dietitian works within these for evidenced based practice; would be best suited to having supervision with Tess.

The style of supervision that Tess provides tends to be a combination of reflective practice, case discussions that you bring and problem-solving discussions. In the first session, we will discuss how you learn best and how Tess can adjust her approach to suit your specific needs. Tess can provide both individual and group supervision, and her style of supervision can be adjusted to suit the individual clinician or group of clinicians.
