Rachel Barbara-May is a social worker, and dialogical family/network therapist, who has around 20 years of experience working with people with eating disorders. Rachel has been at the Alfred Child and Youth Mental Health service for almost 15 years where she has designed and led the development of the eating disorders program. The CYMHS program is now a fully integrated program within the service, providing needs adapted care to young people and their families/networks. The service response is delivered by a full multi-disciplinary team including lived experience and while drawing on evidence based practice, operates with a collaborative, person centred approach.
Rachel has demonstrated strong leadership, clinical practice and teaching in public mental health services where she is passionate about transforming the culture of service delivery systems. Rachel’s philosophy is that eating disorders treatment should be the core business of every mental health professional. Rachel is well known for her collaborative style and for the integration of treatments that place equal value of all the voices of both professional and personal networks.
